Parts One to twenty seven. Three more parts (28-30) were published later. First edition. With a letter signed by the author tipped into volume one, addressed to Mr. Hobbs at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew. A collection of illustrations of the native species of flowering plants across the British Isles, being those growing naturally in the area. Written and illustrated by Stella Ross-Craig, an English illustrator best known as a prolific illustrator of native flora. With a foreword by Sir Edward James Salisbury, an English botanist and ecologist. This set contains: Volume I - Parts I to III: Ranunculaceae to Cruciferae, 1948-1949. Illustrated with forty-four plates to part I, twenty-two plates to part II, and seventy-seven plates to part III. Volume II - Parts IV to VI, 1950-1952. Illustrated with twenty-six plates to part IV, sixty-six plates to part V, and fifty-six plates to part VI. Volume III - Parts VII to IX, Leguminosae and Rosaceae, 1954-1956. Illustrated with seventy-six plates to part VII, forty plates to part VII, and thirty-nine plates to part IX. Volume IV - Parts X to XIII, 1957-1959. Illustrated with thirty-three plates to part X, thirty-nine plates to part XI, thirty-six plates to part XII, and thirty plates to part XIII. Volume V - Parts XIV to XVIII, 1960-1963. Illustrated with thirty-nine plates to part XIV, twenty-eight plates to part XV, thirty-three plates to part XVI, thirty-six plates to part XVII, and forty-one plates to part XVIII. Volume VI - Parts XIX to XXIII, 1963-1966. Illustrated with thirty-seven plates to part XIX, forty-two plates to part XX, thirty-two plates to part XXI, thirty-nine plates to part XXII, and thirty-eight plates to part XXIII. Volume VII - Parts XXIV to XXVII, 1967-1970. Illustrated with forty-eight plates to part XXIV, thirty-six plates to part XXV, forty-eight plates to part XXVI, and forty-six plates to part XXVII. Collated complete. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, very smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Light fading to the spines. Original glassine wrap to volume V, with light wear to the extremities of volume V and a 4" closed tear to the rear panel. Internally, firmly bound.
